Oops! Houston, We Have a Problem.

I wanted to take a moment to give our users an update about a service issue we are currently experiencing. After receiving a few user reports about domains failing to connect in the Woopra desktop client we began to do some research and discovered that we had some corruption occur in our main DNS server data.

For those of you who are unaware, Woopra uses a collection of many servers to store and serve the statistical data collected from your Web site. DNS servers act kind of like a phone directory to point your Web server to the correct Woopra database server. Imagine if you ripped a few pages out of the phone book. You would no longer be able to call the people listed on those pages because you simply couldn’t find them.

The bad news is that right now we can’t collect data for a small number of sites which were added recently (in the last couple of weeks). The good news is that we are in the process of working on re-instating that service. At this point I don’t have an estimated time for completion, but my best guess would be that within a day we should be back to normal.

On behalf of the team, I’m sorry if this is causing anyone a serious issue. We know that many times an interruption in service can prevent real work from getting done, and as soon as we recover we are going to do a full review of the issue and look into a permanent resolution to prevent it from happening again.

Thanks for your patience as we work through the growing pains. Ahhh, the joys of Beta!
